Recently, actor Park Jihoon has been gaining attention for his portrayal of King Danjong, one of the most tragic young kings in Korean history.

Many people first remember Park Jihoon from his days as an idol, but his journey actually began much earlier.
He started his career as a child actor at a very young age, appearing in several dramas and building experience in front of the camera.

Later, he developed a passion for dance and music, which led him to pursue the path of becoming an idol.

Preparing for the Role of King Danjong

In a television interview, Park Jihoon once shared how he prepared for the role of Danjong.

To portray the young king after his fall from power, he tried to capture the exhaustion and emotional weight of a ruler who had lost everything.
Rather than focusing only on appearance, he wanted the character’s suffering to be visible in his expression and presence.

During filming, he even mentioned that he reduced his food intake dramatically, at times eating very little in order to reflect the physical weakness of the character.

For Park Jihoon, the goal was not simply to act like a king, but to understand the emotions of a young boy forced into a tragic destiny.

“A Life That Could Not Follow His Own Will”



While reflecting on Danjong’s life, Park Jihoon shared a thought that stayed with many viewers.

Danjong was still very young when he became king.
At an age when most children would spend their time playing with friends, he suddenly found himself carrying the burden of a throne.

Eventually, he was overthrown by his uncle Grand Prince Suyang and forced into exile.

Park Jihoon described Danjong’s story in one simple sentence:

“A life that could not follow his own will.”

It is a short phrase, but it captures the tragedy of a young king whose fate was decided by forces beyond his control.

The Story Continues in Yeongwol

After losing his throne, Danjong was exiled to Yeongwol, a quiet region in present-day Gangwon Province.

Historical records describe this period as a lonely and difficult time in his life.
In many modern interpretations, including film and drama, this stage of his life reveals not just a king who lost power, but a young person facing the weight of history.

When Actors Meet History



In the same interview, Park Jihoon shared something that felt surprisingly sincere.

He said that if he could ever meet King Danjong, even in a dream, he would like to ask just one question.

“Did you see the film?”

And if Danjong simply smiled, he said, that alone would feel like the greatest compliment.

Perhaps this is what acting truly is —
an attempt to understand someone who lived long ago and bring their story back to life.

Through performances like this, history is not only remembered.
Sometimes, it feels as if we are meeting those people again.
